David Rocastle

History & Early Years

Born in Lewisham, London, on May 2, 1967, David “Rocky” Rocastle rose from humble beginnings to become one of Arsenal’s most beloved sons. Joining the Gunners as a teenager in 1982, his dazzling skill, strength, and sportsmanship quickly made him a fan favourite. Rocky made his first-team debut in 1985 and soon became a vital part of George Graham’s iconic Arsenal side.

Arsenal Glory

Rocastle helped lead Arsenal to one of their greatest triumphs — the dramatic **1988–89 First Division title**, sealed by Michael Thomas’ famous last-minute goal at Anfield. Alongside his close friend Ian Wright, he embodied the heart, grit, and unity that defined Arsenal Football Club during that golden era.

Legacy & Inspiration

Even after leaving Arsenal in 1992, Rocastle’s humility, courage, and respect for the game left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. His tragic passing in 2001 at the age of 33 was felt deeply across the football world — but his spirit endures in every Arsenal player who steps onto the pitch with pride.

The **David Rocastle Trust** and countless tributes from fans remind us that Rocky’s legacy is not only about football, but about character, loyalty, and heart. His famous words continue to inspire both players and supporters alike.
